Defining Best Practice in Research Procurement
In November 2024 over 400 attendees from the buy and sell side joined us in London to debate the pace and likelihood of CSA adoption in Europe, how budgets and research supply could change as a result, and also assess how firms on both the buy and sell side were harnessing potentially transformational new technologies.
On June 12th 2025 we will reunite the North American investment research industry at the Metropolitan Club, New York, featuring entirely buy side, sell side, tech and corporate panels – allowing a deep dive into perspectives from each set of industry stakeholders. The day will round off with panels investigating the increasing integration of data and research in buy side consumption and valuation, and finally a “crystal ball” panel which will allow us to transport ourselves to the research market in 2035. We hope to see you there!
Attendance for confirmed buy side delegates is complimentary, and there are also a limited number of complimentary sell side places.
Location: 1 E 60th St, New York, NY 10022, United States
Dress code: The Metropolitan Club has a strict dress code which states that men must wear jackets and ties at all times and that women must dress with equal formality. No jeans, leggings, shorts, t-shirts or sneakers/trainers are allowed.

Panel 1: The View from the Buy Side
9:30am
A panel of leading buy side speakers will set the scene for the conference. Asset managers are wrestling with volatile markets, rising costs, constantly changing regulations plus the need to evolve quickly to take advantage of AI and the availability of new datasets. How does this translate to how they consume, value, pay and fund the external research they use? What does that mean for how they engage and reward brokers and IRPs, and what do they need from the vendor community?
Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Lauren Giametta, Director, Research Services, Blackrock
Stuart Howard, Global Head of Research, Market Data and Front Office Governance, Invesco
Robert Murillo, Head of Business Management & Operations – Public Market Investments, Franklin Templeton
Amara Raines, Head of Broker and Corporate Relations, Longaeva

Panel 2: The View from the Sell Side
11:00am
A panel of leading sell side speakers will address the view from the brokers. Research budgets have only just turned the corner after a prolonged deflationary period in research, however some brokers managed to retain and even increase market share in the years since MiFiD II. Where do they now see opportunities and how will their offering adapt accordingly? What will their approach be to their clients’ newfound ability to find utility in their entire written output through ingestion into LLMs? How confident can they be that content attribution within their clients’ platforms will drive analyst meetings and the accompanying remuneration? How are they changing their authoring processes, and where are they targeting new formats, coverage or products?
Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Michael Eastwood, Director of Research Americas, Jefferies
Marc Harris, Director of Research, Evercore ISI
Mark Odendahl, Co-Head Global Research, RBC Capital Markets
Panel 3: The Tech Solutions – The Vendors Respond to Panels 1 and 2
11:50am
A panel of leading technology providers will respond to the themes raised in the previous two panels and give specific feedback on key pain points, opportunities and outstanding questions that need answering (so they will be paying close attention to the morning’s discussions!). Case studies will also be covered from each speaker addressing the theme “Practical, immediate value from AI – what results are we seeing and what therefore should the industry be focusing on?”
Moderator: Brijesh Malkan, Chief Strategy Officer, Singletrack
Speakers: Suresh Balaraman, Founder & CEO, Datazoic
Jim Bode, Global Head of Broker Relations, Alphasense
Douglas Christensen, Head of Capital Markets Solutions, SS&C Tier 1

Panel 4: The Integration of Data and Research – Budgeting, Sourcing and Procuring across a wide range of inputs
1:50pm
Given that data and analytics are increasingly incorporated into alternative and long only managers’ internal processes, how is supply and demand for external data and research adapting to align with this trend? Can data procurement best practices provide pointers to the research market and vice versa? How have brokers adapted and repackaged research for their clients’ more data driven approaches, and how is the buy side delineating research and market data budgets given this overlapping trend?
Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Bill Bierds, President, BCC Group
Thomas Li, Co-Founder/CEO, Daloopa
Steve Moreno, Director Global Research and Data Services, Capital Group
Czarina Reinante, Head of Market Data Spend Analytics, Substantive Research
Coffee Break
2:40pm
Panel 5: The View from the Corporates
3:20pm
A panel of leading corporate IR executives will provide the corporate perspective on the research market. The conference calendar is back – how does that balance with the C-suite becoming far choosier on when and why it travels? What differentiates the sell side’s corporate access services in this new hybrid world? How are corporates approaching their IR differently now, and what would help them most from brokers and the buy side?
Moderator: Mark Pellegrino, CEO, Corpaxe
Speakers: Mark Kinarney, VP Investor Relations, Lantheus
Gregg Lampf, VP Investor Relations, Ciena
Panel 6: The Research Market in 2035
4:10pm
A panel of buy side, research providers and vendor speakers will bring the days’ themes into perspective, through the view of a crystal ball taking us to 2035. All the key stakeholders in the industry are currently making decisions with long term implications, whether that is in resourcing, technology, research pricing/valuation, research funding or the delivery and accessability of research. This will all be informed by their view on how this market evolves over the long term. So what will it look like?
