Defining Best Practice in a Rapidly Transforming Investment Research Market

In June 2025 over 400 attendees from the buy and sell side joined us in New York to explore and analyse the key trends in an industry going through rapid change after decades of relative inertia.

On November 5th, 2025 we will reunite the European investment research industry at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London. Panels to debate the acceleration of AI adoption amongst both providers and consumers, the potential for regulatory alignment in research funding and payments across Europe and North America, and the IP and commercial implications of buy side research ingestion into LLMs.

Attendance for confirmed buyside delegates is complimentary, and there are also a limited number of complimentary sellside places.

Location: 116 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5ED

Our event has almost sold out, if you work for a buyside organisation there are a limited number of complimentary tickets available. To request a ticket please email [email protected].

Panel 1: The View from the Buy Side
9:30am

A panel of leading buy side speakers will set the scene for the conference. Asset managers are wrestling with volatile markets, rising costs, constantly changing regulations plus the need to evolve quickly to take advantage of AI and the availability of new datasets. How is research and data demand changing within their organisations, and how is that translating to how their research consumption and valuation translates to provider remuneration? How far has the industry progressed with LLMs ingesting both internal and external research insights, and where is the IP conversation with providers currently?

Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Emma Christiansson,
Global Head of Counterparty Relationships, BNY Investments
Lauren Giametta, Director of Research Services, Blackrock
Stuart Howard, Global Head of Research, Market Data and Front Office Governance, Invesco
Steve Moreno, Director of Global Research and Data Services, Capital Group

Panel 2: The View from the Sell Side
11:00am

A panel of leading sell side and independent providers will address the view from the brokers. Research pricing has now stabilised after the deflationary effects of MiFID II, but how will new technologies affect the leading brokers’ approach to packaging and delivering insights to the buy side? Where do they see opportunities and how will their offering adapt accordingly? What will their approach to balancing IP control with matching their clients demand for direct feeds into LLMs? What’s the best way to encourage greater transparency from the buy side?

Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Alex Coffey,
Head of EMEA Research, Jefferies
Jessica Binder Graham, Director of EMEA Equity Research, Goldman Sachs
Eric Jaffe, CEO, BCA Research
Jonathan Jayarajan, Head of European Equity Product, Deutsche Bank
Gareth Jenkins, Head of Research – EMEA, UBS
Rupert Jones, Head of European Equity Research, Barclays

Panel 3: The Tech Solutions – The Vendors Respond to Panels 1 and 2
11:50am

A panel of leading technology providers will respond to the themes raised in the previous two panels and give specific feedback on key pain points, opportunities and outstanding questions that need answering (so they will be paying close attention to the morning’s discussions!). Panellists will also share specific case studies from their offerings that provide insight into how AI and new technology is transforming how vendors can improve the efficiency if this industry.

Moderator: Brijesh Malkan, CEO, Singletrack

Panel 4: The Integration of Data and Research – Budgeting, Sourcing and Procuring across a wide range of inputs
1:50pm

Given that data and analytics are increasingly incorporated into alternative and long only managers’ internal processes, how is supply and demand for external data and research adapting to align with this trend? Can data procurement best practices provide pointers to the research market and vice versa? How have brokers adapted and repackaged research for their clients’ more data driven approaches, and how is the buy side delineating research and market data budgets given this overlapping trend?

Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: David Coluccio,
Head of Buy-Side and Data feed Strategy, S&P Global
Roma Greening, Head of Broker Relations, EMEA & APAC, AlphaSense

Panel 5: The Evolution of Corporate Access
3:20pm

The conference calendar is back – how does that balance with the C-suite becoming far choosier on when and why it travels? What differentiates the sell side’s corporate access services in this new hybrid world? How are corporates approaching their IR differently now, and what would help them most from brokers and the buy side?

Moderator: Mike Carrodus, CEO, Substantive Research
Speakers: Sarah Ahmed
, Head of Corporate Access & Research Services, Artisan Partners Asset Management
James Fitzsimmons, Head of EMEA Corporate Access, Goldman Sachs
Caspar Luard, Chief Revenue Officer, TWST Events

Jacqueline Wilhelmy,

Panel 6: Joint Payments and the Road Ahead for European Research
4:10pm

The possibility of a European CSA-funded research market was met with much scepticism from the buy side when the new joint payments framework was launched by the FCA. However now the majority of European asset managers expect a largely CSA-driven approach to take over within two years. What has fuelled this shift in expectations and intentions and how will it play out? Many in the industry have also been pushing the FCA to now change their definition of research, which could allow for greater flexibility for asset managers to include data and analytics into CSA-funded research budgets. Is this a realistic hope, and would it encourage greater adoption of joint payments in 2026?
